How big?
« on: August 31, 2009, 07:43:00 AM »
It appears that this season i am truly blessed to be able to chase some mature whitetails even though i live in the over pressured north east....and while i know they dont compare to their midwest or northern counterparts these guys are both shooters in my book especially with their apparent age, just curious for you guys who chase large deer what do you think these guys would score?  Im guessing in the 130" range....hope to find out for sure in a few weeks?  Best of luck with the upcoming seasons    :archer:

I doubt that the 7 pt will make the magic 125 but he's a nice deer.  It's hard to judge mass in velvet, but he has some.

The 8 pt is very symmetrical and probably in the upper 130's like you said.  I'd drop the string on either of them.

Good hunting Cap.

they are both nice deer but they wont make 130" wait till they shed the velvet and you may think differently. I would shoot either of them ,but i have learned not to judge until they shed the fuzz. Now seeing them during the season is the real challenge! good luck!

Thanks fellas...I'd absolutely jump at the chance to take either one!  The opener can't get here soon enough.  Since they showed three or four weeks ago the two of them have been showing up about every 3 or 4 days on the trail camera

I have a giant running around in my spot( check the trail cam thread) he already disapeared! as soon as the velvet comes off they change there patterns and then he will show up again the 2nd week of the season for a camio then a few ore times, but basically nocturnal till after the season. good luck.

Bentpole,

I showed you some pics of my bucks when you were down at my building in Jersey City? remember?

Jersey has some bombers, just not as easy to get a whack at them! Good luck to all.

I agree Jersey has some monsters you just have to be determined and daring to get to them.

Those will loose a lot of size once they shed...I'm viewing this on my phone but looks like they are good bucks! I'd shoot either but I just mount other peples antlers I don't care much for em lol. I like the meat better.

Yeah im expecting them to be smaller once they shed, im just happy to see deer 4+ there hasnt been many around where i hunt for the past few years, its been a steady diet of does and a lot of self control letting young bucks walk hoping they make it past everyone else, guess a few grew smart enough!

Oddly enough....I thought the 8 would score a bit "more" higher than the 7.  I've got the 7 at 126" gross and the 8 at 127" gross.

Good luck getting on them, this fall.  I'd love to see you put a tape on them and tell US!...lol

(good luck)

Wow, Beauts!!

Id say the 7 will gross about 120" and the 8 will be right at the min. for P&Y...

Good luck, I hope you get them both so we can see what they really score...good luck!

BTW...beautiful pix...is that a "Trophy Cam"?

Thanks again guys, i have to say i like my chances they show up fairly regularly and have always shown up in daylight none of their pics are after dark!

Curt...good eye that is a Bushnell Trophy Cam...i was following your thread about the wildgame cams and the battery life turned me away from them.  The battery life in the bushnell is outrageously good, ive hit 1200 pics and havent dented them a bit yet.  I think its probably the best value for 200 and has a 2yr warranty...the IR pics are great as well.  Im def going to get another one for another spot.
