Son Looking for first custom Bow!!!
« on: August 31, 2009, 12:28:00 PM »
My son is in the market for his first custom bow and I was wondering what some of you that have boys and or girls might suggest.  Wes is about 5'4" 135# and can draw a #55 martin, but I want to keep him down around 45#'s to prevent the bad habits from forming.    :knothead:

He has been shooting a Bear Black Bear 45# @ 28" really well so I think that weight is good for him. I am guessing his draw to be 25-26" when he anchors.

Couple things that he is looking for are wood choices, price and time frame on being ready. He would like to have some input on the woods, needs to keep the price around $500 and me, well he doesn't know it but I would like to give it to him for Christmas.

thanks!

I just recieved his and hers matching 59 Kodiak copies from Vintage Works in Parker Colorado. Bows are top shelf all the way! Simply wonderful. Quick, quiet and very pretty. The 60 inch bow is $500.00 and turn around time was 6 weeks. Bowyer was very easy to work with and very professional. Jackie's bow outshoots her Chastain that is #1 lighter in a way that is easy to see with the eye. I'm not a big speed fan but at the lower draw weights I do think the extra performance can make a difference.
Get bamboo.

Rob, Call Jim Jones of Firefly bows.  He makes an awesome 3 piece takedown longbow!!  I am sure you have seen them around here.

I second taking a look at Maddog Archery.  Mike's a great guy to deal with.
