Kentucky Opener
« on: September 04, 2009, 10:19:00 AM »
Knives are sharp, broadheads sharper, shooting is honed, pack is loaded, and today my wife is living with my 1000 yard stare because I have three straight days to hunt in Kentucky with my Palmer Recurve starting tomorrow! I have glassed a big buck in velvet there 2 weeks ago and hope he walks into my shooting lane. Exciting day and I am like a kid at Christmas!

Whoo Hoo, deer, deer, everywhere deer. I am seeing tons of does, big fawns, small bucks running everywhere, and so far 5 bruisers! I have to work tommorow morning, huntin the afternoon, evening spots mostly anyhow. The wife and I are both fired up, she hunts too. 4 weeks and we are going elk hunting, she drew a bull tag in the first rifle season, seeing tons of them, literally! Good luck to all you other KY boys, let the games begin!. Sam

Good to see all the attention paid to our KY whitetails. I saw something rather "different", (for lack of a better word) when I read wapiti792's post about coming to KY to deer hunt. I noticed he's from Illinois and he's hunting whitetails here! Now that's saying something when an Illinois deer hunter chooses KY for some of his hunting when he lives in arguably one of the top 5 whitetail states in the U.S.! I already knew KY is fast becoming a top trophy whitetail state and I believe we're being noticed by others as well.

I gotta work tomorrow but I plan on going after I get home in the evening. I believe there are some decent bucks where I hunt because I haven't killed one since '04 and I don't think anyone else has either and I've passed on or had missed opportunities on some very good ones over the last few years. So they should be ready for an arrow by now for sure.

Best wishes this weekend to all of my fellow Kentuckians and to the nonresidents as well. Remember to post pics!

Got up in my tree at 4:45, got down at 6. Wind wasn't cooperating. Southeast wind tonight though so hopefully a better evening.
