FF or B-50

Ok, how can I identify one from the other,is there a physical difference I can see or feel?


  Have purchased a few used bows over the years and have a some strings laying around which came with these bows which are usable but I do not want to use FF on my older bows.

One suggestions is how easily they can be cut.
It is difficult to cut FF with sissors. B50 cuts easily. Try to cut the loose ends if the string is a flemish twist.

Amen to this...if anyone has a good way to cut FF with scissors of some sort please let me know!  The B-500 I have is larger in Diameter than the D-97 and has a totally different feel and look.
 
If the string isn’t old you could try to stretch it with two screw drivers or a pair of small antlers to see if it moves.  My D-97 will not move much if any but the B-500 will stretch and rebound.

In addition, Dacron melts before it burns, like plastic.  The low stretch stuff seems to just burn and turn straight to ash.

I cut FF w/ a sharp knife, more of a sawing versus shearing action, no worries.

Diameter is tricky, as some (450+) weaves are very similar in diameter to B50.

I use a sharp knife,I thought the shears that you use for low stretch braided fishing line would work but the 450 just rolled between the blades leaving a poor end.
  I do have shears that cut it nicely that I use for cutting metal shimstock at work,they were purchased from a matco dealer a while ago and I do not remember what they cost but they were probably expensive.The stock number of them is hdws2 .
