GT 5575 vs. Beeman MFX 340
« on: September 14, 2009, 08:39:00 PM »
Ok guys, I believe a 5575 is a 400 spine. I need something stiffer than a 5575 and was thinking of the MFX 340. Just wanted to make shure that the 340 is a good bit stiffer but not as stiff as a 300 spined arrow. Thanks Everyone

I think you will get about 10-12 or so more pounds of spine on the 340 than the 400.  The 300 is about the same  as the 7595 at about 20-25 pounds more spine.

the 340 I believe is closer to the 7595's but the skinny shafts seem to act completely different than the gold tips with weight on them.

53@ 28, sounds crazy but the 5575's are to weak, even tried a 2216 and to weak, but a 7579 is to stiff.

100 grain brass insert with 125 gr point. Are you shooting a black widow?

I have had alot of people tell me that they had to shoot alot stiffer arrow than usual with a bw recurve.

Hey Hogdgz, have you looked at the "Traditional Only" shafts that 3-Rivers sells?
These are a wood grain carbon made by Easton for 3-Rivers. They are supposed to be the same 5/16th diameter as the Gold Tips you are currently shooting. These shafts are available in the 340 spine.

I'm shooting a BW, MA-II, 49@29" and I have about a 31.5" draw. I'm currently shooting full length Gold Tip Traditionals, 55/75 with the standard insert and a 125 grain tip. I also have a 22 grain reflective wrap and use three 5" LW shield cut feathers.

I have been thinking about trying some of the "Traditional Only" shafts for my bow.

im shooting a rose oak rc, with 220 grains up front on the 500's. Originally I figured I would be shooting 400's but they were way to stiff. the 500's spine out perfect with the heavy point weight.

very strange hogdgz, When you get a shaft that bareshafts out let me know what spine it is. Im just curious at this point.

Gold Tip 5575s are .400 spine. 7595s are .340 spine.

BW's are supposed to be hard shooting bows so efficiency is probably better than some other bows.  Check to see what the center cut is on the BW.  I think they are cut past center.  If you build out to center with the strike plate you should be able to shoot a 5575 at about 29" with 225 up front.  If not you can drop your point weight a little and try 50 gr. inserts and 125-145 points.  Also check to make sure you don’t have your nock point too low.  You can get edge of shelf contact causing the arrow to show weaker than it is.  I have had this where the feather ran off the edge of the shelf so I didn’t hear it, but I ended up with a way stiff arrow tune that looked great and shot great.  Then when I changed the nock set height a little all of a sudden I had a way stiff arrow.

I have the nock set at 5/8 and if i go any lower it bounces off the shelf, but I do get a little wear on the outside edge of the shelf pad. Thanks so much for all the info guys.

According to Gold Tip's web site these are the spine numbers for their Traditional shafts,

1535 - Traditional  .600"

3555 - Traditional  .500"

5575 - Traditional  .400"

7595 - Traditional  .300"

I saw where someone thought the 7595 shafts were .340" spine and I didn't think that was correct so I had to go to Gold Tip and double check. Hope this helps!

GOOD SHOOTING!

Thanks so much Slufoot, that helps to confirm that I think the 340's will be a perfect arrow for the setup I am wanting to do.
