A knife for protection?...or just hacking big stuff?

Here's the "Buffalo Knife".

Here it is with a shoulder harness carry.

I thought you are a lefty Ron! That is a really bad ass knife. Like Croc Dundee bad! But I would still go for the hawk for the weight. I'm in good shape this year and getting above tree line is not unusual when just trying to find some elk. Weight is more of an issue that in stand hunting I guess. That really is a first class knife though...

I just finished up this broadhead neck knife, I need to make the straps yet. I think I'll carry this with me this season.

I got the idea from the knife forum and thought it looked cool.

I now carry this Theuns Prinsloo knife.

It was a gift and I can't wait to use it.  I was given this knife about 3 years ago, but this will be the first year I carry it in the field.  I wanted to keep it like new for a bit, but now I think it needs to be used.  Pretty as it is, it is still a tool.

The handle is giraffe bone but I am not sure what the sheath is made from.  It's soft, though, and very flexible.  Kind of hoping it's not giraffe... privates.

The engraving (my initials) was done by my friend, Christian Meyers.  He's the one who gave me this knife.

this summer I bought Robert Griffiths dvd "How to field dress a deer in about a minute" and his knife.  It is a tiny pairing knife looking thing.  He really does field dress a deer in one minute with it.
So I will be carrying that little knife.  Back at came in my 'success bow'  I'll have a Browning skinning knife and single blade razer blades for capping.
I hope to get to use them often this season .. we'll see.
