Naples, Florida?
« on: September 28, 2009, 10:47:00 AM »
I am trying to round up some information for a possible hog hunt in that area. My buddy just moved down there to attend law school and wants to line up a hunt. Is there much public land in the area? I am from Utah and have never chased hogs, any information would help, thanks.

There are some good WMAs down there, but many of them are limited to draws.  The hunting is fun, but tough.  Go to myfwc.com and click on hunting, then management areas, then southern region and you will find a bunch of information.

unfortunately the WMA's down here don't allow year round hunting even though hogs are open year round on private land.  Like Gregg said, you have to apply for a limited draw quota and "win" a tag for that year.  the seasons for hog are only in the fall (there is a spring turkey, but they only allow turkey to be taken on all the WMAs I know).  It's crazy because there is NO shortage of hogs, tons of them and they are incredibly destructive, but unless you know someone with land, it's all about the money.  Everywhere else in the country people are looking for folks to kill hogs.. not in south florida.. not unless your willing to pay that is.

I think Allapattah Flats(near Indiantown) has a small game season where hogs are legal and goes into March.
You can check specifics at FWC web-site.

Check that, I was wrong about the dates it ends in early Jan.There are plenty of hog operations for pay. PM me if you want more info on that.
