The primary feathers are the best for fletching..which are the longest feathers, towards the wingtips. The secondary's are good for fluflus!

The easiest way to get the primaries off the wing is either with a band saw if you have one. Next best is a pair of tin snips.

Paul, throw the bones in the freezer (or mail them to me!!). If you have the current Bowyer's Journal, there's a how-to in there. The one on the How-to Forum here has lost all it's pictures. I'm working to get that fixed. You can also throw the whole wing in the freezer till you're ready to work the feathers.

Thanks for the info gents.Don't have the Bowyer's Journal so guess I'll pull the feathers and put the rest in the freezer for later.
Oh,and thanks also to you kind hearted guys who offered to take them off of my hands... :D

use all the feathers for fletching....the tail and smaller feathers are great for 2 fletching primitive arrows. a wing bone call is simple to make. i don't know how to post pics here but if you email me i will send some pics of arrows and a couple of calls....it is fun.

Paul,I will be glad to show you the next time we get togather at a rendevous or if I can find some time maybe I can make it up that way.
I have some in the freezer also and I just got off days so hopefully I can get in some hunting to.By the way I use all of the feathers so don't throw any away.
