Carrying Turkey Arrows ?

For you guys that shoot the gobbler guilloties for turkeys, how are you carrying them?  I'm thinking about modifying one of my catquivers (Mini) to carry them unless someone has a better solution.

My friend plans to carry one in his regular bow quiver. the nock end is like normal and for the "broadhead" end he is putting one of those piggy back things on another arrow to space the guillotine on the outside of the hood.

I was told by a local archery store employee that the gillatine turkey broadhead had to be shot from bows shooting around 250fps.  Has anyone shot these from trad gear?

don't know if the spelling on that broadhead was right.  I was talking of the big 4" decapitating blades with the little plastic straws that help the blade fly correctly.  Would like to know if anyone has had success shooting these with tradgear.

Trust me.....The little plastic straws are to keep you from cutting your fingers off!!!!!

I don't know what the archery shop guy was talking about though,I don't see where speed have much to do with how they perform. I would be more concerned with getting them to fly accuratly rather than "fast" IMO.

I believe the speed was for accuracy.  I would like to purchase one if other tradgangers have used them with tradgear.

Im heading to south texas this coming up weekend for a turkey hunt. Assuming i get one on the ground with a snuffer, i intend to try to lop a head off. I wasnt willing to pony up the 45 bucks for a pack so i built some of my own. The straws are a very critical component for good flight. My first test shot was at a 3 inch thick piece of foam like they use for target faces at archery shops. At 20 yards i passed clean through and landed 5 yards behind it shooting a 58# bob lee recurve with 450 grain total arrow weight. I made mine a 3 inch cut. I was very impressed to say the least. It left the straws on the front side of the target, just like it was supposed to. We will be rolling film on our hunt. If all goes well with the field testing, perhaps i will do a build along when we get back.

We shot them off of flu-flus instead of snaros for on-the-wing shots jumping ducks out of irrigation ditches.  Accuracy-wise, they fly well off trad gear but poorly off of high speed compounds.  For what it is worth, they were capalbe of cutting off wings on mallards at the speeds generated by a 57# recurve or 56# longbow.  We even got one decapitation.  Mostly though, we were just trying to knock down birds so we could send the Chessapeakes after them.  They were more effective them snaores or hex blunts.

I've got some of the bigg-uns(125)& I'm shooting them out of a 52lb recurve with excellent arrow flight....just have to get one to hold his head still long enough for the arrow to get there.

Kyle is correct, the plastic sleeves are very important for correct flight. I also was told for turkey to shoot them off of high speed bows, like 220fps. I myself will use a big old snuffer. Shawn

I can't for the life of me understand the speed thang. The create more drag because of the straws. That is why the compound guys think you need speed to overcome the drag. Weight does a better job overcoming the drag than speed.

Once again the compound guys got the buggy pushing the horse. Here is a pic shot out of a SLOW bow with a normal (for me which is heavy for the other side) arrow.

BTW.. I made my own quiver out of wood and put a strap on it. It will hold 3. I will try to post a pic of it later.
