bleaching feathers?

Has anyone ever bleached feathers with peroxide before dying them?

It doesn't work.  Best case scenereo is a yellow/brown color and weakened feathers.  The manufacturers use domestic white turkeys.  I use the natural feather and a white rabbit fur tracer for visability.
