hi northern ben just got a call from southern ben.
i'm not much of a writer but here goes.
the hunt was in cobar central nsw on a property owned by warick.
it was a 3 day's on the ground hunt and if you look at the pink color of my arms and legs it gets a lot hotter in cobar in september than in the central highlands of victoria.
the billy is my first trad kill taken with a 68" 55@30 robertson purist td longbow. 750grn (a little bit of over kill for goats) lam birch shaft 145grn eclipes broadhead.
i shot him at about 10 yards after sitting in a ground blind and watching the goats feed on the other side of the dam. so i stalked in on him whilst he was crossing through a deep wash out. as he came out the other side i shot him it hit him a little bit far back hit the last rib on the on side and exited behind the shoulder on the off side.
he ran 20 yards and layed up under a overhang under me so i got into a spot and made a second shot between the shoulder blades and he died within 10 seconds.
the second goat i got on this trip was a very small lucky if it was 20 kg's there was a really big billy watering at a dam with very little cover.
to cut a long story short i stalked in on the big billy for 45 min took aim and shot clean over the top of him into a half grown billy.
from cobar ben and myself made our way to nyngan to a charming man's pay to play property he charged us $55 a night to stay. the so called house we were to sleep in was ready to fall down and in such a rubbish filled and piss poor state that i would not let my dog stay there .
as for pigs they had been dogged out.
so we went to see him the next morning and he showed us the pigs him and his mate took the night before we arrived. then took our $55 each from us and said and i quote " if ya give me a good day's work i'll take ya out tonight with the spotty and ya can shoot some pigs" but he still wanted our money as well. ha ha
ben and myself looked at each other politly declined his kind offer packed our gear and got the hell out of there with us both talking about a particular scene out of the movie deliverance.
there is more to the story and i will tell you latter.

well here is the second installment.
from nyngan we were going to cut our trip short and head home but made a detour to tolmie which is in the mountains near mansfield in vic were we camped for 3 day's.
we went to this area looking for pigs and deer but the bush fires that summer had burnt out a lot of the bush up there so we turned it into a 3 day stump shoot.
i had a great time just flinging arrows around up there in the hills i love it in the mountains there is somthing about being up there i just can not explain.
then on the last day ben and myself we just wondering through a snow grass river flat walking and talking shooting at those dangerous stumps and just plainly making a lot of noise.
when we strolled up the opposite side of the river bank. breaking through the tree line when something made us both stop we looked to our left and there she was a very large samber doe standing there feeding she did not no we were there or she just did not care.
now i have done a lot of deer hunting in the mountains and never in my life have i ever seen a samber deer just stand in the open feeding whilst i was standing in the open and not do the hot shoe shuffle at a million mile per hour into there nearest thick cover.
anyway ben started to stalk in on her from 50 yards he closed the distance to maybe 20 yards and she was still feeding but you could see she was getting a little uncomfortablewith him being there.
i still think she was aware of us but she was in very poor condition after a hard winter and was that hungry she just did not care.
ben took one more step towards here she lifted her head sniffed the air looked around and very slowly walked away.
after ben walked back we both had the biggest smiles on our face both exitedly talking at each other we were both more than happy just seeing all of this unfold in front of us and let her live anoughter day.
to say i had a great trip would be an understatement.
the road home was filled with talk of first trad kills strang propetry owners that doe and the next trip away.
i hope you all enjoyed reading this story as much as ben and myself did doing it.
this hunt took place in september 2008.
by the way this is my first go at writing a hunting story i hope you liked it.
thanks jason
