Moose at the riverside stand
« on: October 07, 2009, 09:05:00 AM »
Last week I did a recount about a button buck I shot a a new stand I put up which I refer to as the Riverside stand (http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=078952). The stand is almost hanging me over a river and i access it by canoe. I made a statement or two that I thought the stand would be a special place. Yesterday I went in and checked the Cuddeback. The camera said it had four images stored so i retrieved the flash card. Sign at the stand was not very good so I was curious as to what I would see. One of the pics I knew was of me retrieving two judos I  shot that last time I hunted there. There was also a pic of the back of a turkey....and then there was this guy. Too bad it was raining so hard on Sat. when the pics were taken as they are a bit fuzzy but they are good enough.

This is about 1/4 mile or so from where I shot a cow moose two seasons ago. I do have a moose tag for this year but it is for a cow and in a management unit about 125 miles away. If I had been hunting that afternoon I would have been able to see him coming across the marsh that is out in front of the stand. I am sure that this stand is going to be one of my favorites....even if I never kill anything from it again.

You're lucky to hunt moose. They're big animals & especially worthy trophies. Thanks for the pix.

straitera: I wish I could hunt this one. I know the area really well but the State makes the rules, not me. But, just the same, even if I can't shoot him his presence in the area will always have me on full alert for a sighting. In fact, as I paddled out last night I could hear a cow bellowing off in the distance. çanoeing down a river in the dark of night is  very cool experience and I get to do it whenever I want to.
