New guy(sorta)
« on: October 11, 2009, 10:35:00 AM »
Hello all. Figured it was time I stopped by and said hello. Ive been a member here for a few years(cant remember when I joined), and a regular visitor, but have never posted.
(im not good with words..as youll soon see)

I feel like I know some of you quite well. I enjoy all the (mis)adventures you all have so generously shared.

A little about me. Another upstate Ny'er.

Im married..with two sons, aged 10 and 6.
Live in the Helderberg mountains. Been a hunter since I was a teen.
Been pretty succesful over the years..but I get quite bored without a challenge.
Gun hunting led me to compound....then when that got boring..it led me to a recurve.
THAT is the challenge Ive been looking for I guess...since Ive yet to score on a bow deer since I picked it up.

I think I enjoy the attitude towards nature and outdoorsmanship shared by you folks more than anything else.
Its nice to know there are still people who would just as likely discuss a beautiful sunrise than the big deer they saw.

Thats enough for now I guess...Thanks for sharing all youve shared and thanks for having me.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Tradtusker, yeah, a few years back I picked up a little recurve for the boys. Its just a small childrens model, but they love to fling arrows with it. Hardest part is trying to keep them in shafts, lol. They love to fling em off into the woodlot..sometimes I can find em, sometimes I cant.
Ishi..yeah, Im pretty close to you. Im in east berne.
Id love to get together with some of you fellas sometime. Scheduling is tough for me though., but Id love to sling a few with fellow trads.
Ive never run into a fellow stickshooter in real life..so it would be cool to compare notes.

Welcome!!  :wavey:

Look forward to hearing the little details about you and the adventures of your challenge.

BTW, we share the same challenge, I have yet to harest with trad gear.  I hope to changed that very, very soon.  I feel like I've done my part. (practice, practice, practice)  Now its time for the deer to do theirs.

Thanks msc...Season doesnt open for me for another week. After that, I hope to be sharing all sorts of my tales of adventure.
And as far as the 'first one" goes..Im actually ok that I havent got one yet. Ive learned a TON(or Id like to think I have)by switching to a recurve..but thats another thread.

Welcome Darrel.

We'll be out hunting before you know it.

If you'd like to get together with some local traditional shooters, give me a yell.  There are 2 local clubs that are primarily trad, Mohawk Hudson Traditional Archers in Delmar and Rakowana Archers in Voorheesville.  Rakowana shoots most wednesday nights at the Heldeburg Workshop grounds.  There are also some trad shooters at the Archery Barn up by you.

Good hunting to you.

Welcome,
I always love to shoot with fellow tradsters.  Mohawk Hudson Trad. Archers are a great group of guys.  Not sure about the Rakowana archers, I'm sure they are top notch also.  I'm gonna check them out. I hope to get my first trad deer this weekend on the NY opener.  Although my main goal is to de-stress from a long week.

PM me if you ever want to get together and shoot. I live about an hour away but am always looking for a reason to shoot.

Charlie
Relax,
