That's the tail end of our firearms season...not the best time.
The ticks are gone by November.

Go to DNRs site and see "Places to Hunt" for public ground. There is a lot of it down there. It will be pounded during gun season especially on the weekends but get away from the roads, find a saddle in a one of the ridges and hang a stand and you might be surprised. If you are gun hunting, just join in the fun. About anything can happen then.

trapperDave thanks. I am going to try to get some maps on the HNF. I see it is over 24,000 acres any suggestions on where to start?
John plan to hunt with a bow. I know it can get wild up there during that time. I guess it would be like that in GA if there was only two weeks to hunt with a gun.
Mike thanks for the info. I look forward to meeting you.

I'd also be interested in finding some good S. Indiana locations. I'm thinking about trying some of the Hoosier National forest south of Paoli. I'm live much closer to the Clark State Forest but last year deer seem few and far between.

Deer densities are normally pretty low in many areas of the HNF that are just big woods. The areas hit by EHD a couple years ago are starting to rebound but it will be a year or two more to get back to normal. Areas bordering ag land have a bit higher densities though. I hunt Martin County near ag land and last year was pretty slow. No matter how you slice it, it requires more work than hunting on a farm or a broken piece of public land like a WMA. It's still a blast and the most beautiful part of our state.
