You need to be pretty young as hedge grows very very slow. You might be too old and feeble by the time it grows big enough for staves!

I had to laugh to myself this morning. The grocery store was selling hedgeapples at 0.70 each in the produce section. Put some in a bucket of water over this winter and plant the mush in the spring. (Toss some miracle grow on it and see what happens!)If you plant it near a creek bottom where it has to fight for sun, it'll grow nice and straight!
