Day one or Predator brand
« on: October 20, 2009, 10:25:00 PM »
I have my choice narrowed down between the two. If you have had both the day one and the predator (both in fleece with the wind sheer) is the day one that much better for almost double the price? How do the two compare. I have been asking a lot of questions but money these days don't come easy and I just want to make sure I make a good decision.
This is a great place with a wealth of info.

Thanks

Terry,
never tried the Day One but hear he makes great clothes. Only complaint I have seen posted over and over about Day One, especially this time of year is the delivery time.

I bought a set of Predator's new 380 gram fleece with the wind lining and after two hunts I am in love with it. Soft, quiet, and no wind will come thru. love the zippered chest pockets for cell phone or other items like a grunt tube. Awesome product. JMHO

I have both Day One and Predator clothes. I bought a Day One pullover in Buck Suede 3 years ago. I love it. It is very well made and has some nice features that I think are somewhat unique to his products. I have two things that happened when I ordered my shirt that left a bad taste in my mouth. When I ordered I was quoted a turn around time that was reasonable. After that time passed I called to see what was going on and when I would have my shirt. I was told my shirt had been cut out and just needed to be sewn and that it would be just a few more days. Two weeks later I received a shirt that I know was smaller than what I ordered so I called to get it replaced. I was told the shirt I ordered was a slim fit and the fabric I ordered it in was not stretchy and I needed a larger size. I know the shirt I received was not as large as it was stated to be on his web site. Long story short I had to pay shipping to return the shirt I had wait again then pay to have the new shirt shipped back. I payed shipping on that shirt 3 times. I am still not happy about that. On the other hand I love the shirt. I would buy more day one stuff because it is good quality clothes but only if I found it used. I will not buy direct again.
As for the predator I ordered two pair of pants from the bargain room page on their website a year later. Also in Buck Suede. The quality is very good but the fabric is much more shiny. It is not dull like my Day One Buck Suede. I bought them thinking they were the same material but they are not. I would however buy from them again just not the Buck Suede.

Not on your list....but on the list of sponsors is Gray Wolf Woolens.  I just got a wolfskin suit from Jeff, there....and the attention to detail is impeccable with these folks.  They even cusomized my "std" predator windshear vest (added a grommet for my tether to pass thru on the back) for me.

First class operation.

Predator Camo is my favorite. I've owned garments from Predator, Day One, and Gray Wolf. Frankly, I prefer the older Predator patterns (Spring Green, Fall Grey, Fall Brown)vs. the new one's. If you forced me to buy one pattern it would be Fall Brown which Predator no longer carries but Day One and Gray Wolf do. In fact, Gray Wolf has a set on sale in their "Specials" section that I don't need but may not be able to pass up. The old addage, "you get what you pay for applies here". While the Predator stuff is very good, IMHO the Day One and Gray Wolf are a notch better.
The guys above mention service. Again, IMHO it's very late to be buying hunting clothes, in fact, it is hunting season. We try to buy our hunting supplies well in advance of hunting season.

Good Luck,
Kyle

The problems I had started in June when I placed the order. They lasted until mid September. Things may have changed since then. It has been a few years.

Kyle
It looks like the fleece stuff that gray wolf sells is the exact same as what predator sells.
Is there a chance they are the same just different supplier?

No problem T Folts, got lots of help myself on here ! The Gang is great isn't it ?

I also vote with Kyle above when he mentions the older Predator patterns. I have been a liflelong Mossy Oak guy being raised here in the South. However, after buying a used GWW Predator Fall Gray jacket for my son last year..... well let me tell ya, we are converting everything we can to Predator FG ! I had to look for him and knew where he was ! Not so with Mossy Oak, at 50 yds it is nothing but a black blob. FG will break your outline, especially in a treestand ! The only other pattern I would consider would be the Fall Brown, but it is not as light as the FG. JMHO

I love day one camo and see no reason to even bother with anything else! There really is no comparison to fall brown. Best camo pattern i've come across with asat being a close second!
The man who thinks he can and the man who thinks he can't are both right!!!
