Fianally set eyes on a buck
« on: October 24, 2009, 04:55:00 PM »
This year has been tough so far. I've had a hard time getting out into the woods and the 5-6 times I've been out have all been bust, except 1 time. That one time I had 2 does in close, but no shot.

Yesterday and last night it rained the whole time, and raining hard again this afternoon.

I squeezed in a couple hours this morning and was rewarded with seeing  a nice buck come in from behind my stand. He walked around and scratched his head on a branch and then went and made a scrape on his way out. Didn't geta shot even though he was very relaxed and offered lots of good shot angles. He just was on the edge of my comfort zone and with the high winds I just didn't FEEL the shot, so I just watched him and made a note to get back out to that spot  the next morning I get the chance......  :archer:

Have had a whole bunch of years where I didn't pull my bow back. The bad years makes the  good ones special.

I finally saw one too this A.M., laying in the middle of the road dead. Someone had just hit it. Dang, we dont have enough buck around here to waste them!
Last winter was really hard on the deer, bucks are really scarce.

I see that ALL the time around here! I see way more bucks/deer hit on the road than I see in the woods.

I might have to turn my stand around to face the direction he came from---may give me more of a heads-up when he's coming.  Next tiem , I hope the wind isn't so strong----a couple times I was wondering what I was doing up there!  :knothead:
