A Swing & A Miss
« on: October 26, 2009, 02:08:00 PM »
A buddy of mine harvested a doe Saturday, so I took the hocks and soak them in some buck urine that I had in the freezer since last year. This morning I dragged the conglomeration from my truck to my stand. At 8am, I was stretching my legs facing away from my dragline when I looked over my shoulder and spied a buck following my dragline. Afraid of moving to much for fear of him making me, I grabbed my bow and swung around for the shot. At ten yards, he stopped dead in tracks atand stared away in the opposite direction. He was in perfect position, slightly quartering away. I made my draw and released and sent the arrow flying over his back. Even got hair. He jumped off the logging road and into the woods and at 30 yeards he just stood there looking around, trying to figure out what the heck just happened. After about 5 minutes, he decides to come back, and made his way back to the logging road. He continues on to the doe hock, and while he is licking it, I figure that since he's only 8 yards away and slightly quartering away again, I better make my move while he's preoccupied with that doe hock hanging in the tree. I draw, burn a hole, and promply send an arrow over his back again.

This time, he decides enough is enough, and he boogied outta there. An hour later, I seen him again feeding on acorns about 80 yards out.

I love this sport. Just when you think you've about seen it all, some dumb buck comes along and proves ya wrong.   :)

Thanks God for a great morning.   :)
