Jake,
I live in SE NM and the hogs have been here for a while. There has been rumors that the game dept has been shooting them at night from a boat at Brantley Lake (12 miles N of Carlsbad). I have heard of them being thick S of Carlsbad all along the Pecos River down to the Texas border. Lots of BLM to roam around and look for them. I e-mailed the NMGF a few years ago and they were encouraging people to hunt the Sacramento (elk country)and if I remember correctly it was "Blue Water Canyon". But if I had to pick a spot, it would would be on the Pecos River. Salt cedars used to be so thick you couldn't walk through to the river. The state has tried to eradicate them in the last 10 years and they are thinned out depending where you are.Look on a map and follow the Pecos going south and when you see where the "Deleware" River intersects the Pecos....that's the spot from what I have heard. Easy to get to and lots of oil field roads. I used to do a lot of fishing down there but the "golden algae" has ruined the fishing around here for the last 10 years. Hope this has helped..If you come this way give me a call and I'll point you the right direction..John
