East Texas Hogs
« on: October 28, 2009, 07:09:00 PM »
Hey guys i'm looking for a place to hog hunt in east texas. I was wondering if anybody here knew of any land owners down there who would like some hogs shot on their land? I hear they are a big pain to farmers.

alas they are also a source of income to farmes.  Texas is the land of the hunting lease.  you might find a day lease but unless you know someone that has an in on a private farm it may be hard to find a place to hunt short of a day lease.

Gotta agree! They are a pain to farmers but the day of the free hog hunt are getting further and further a thing of the past. I'm surprised another Tradganger hasn't made an offer though. If you'd like day-fee hunt I'd be glad to have you. Good luck! CK

I live in SouthEast Texas and like Rusty & CK said there in NO FREE hog hunting here, It's Fee hunting hogs. I moved to Wharton back in late June and still looking for Farmers/ranchers to let me hunt hogs for them. No Go so far.

If You can swing a few days, Hunt with CK of 7th age Bowhunters. Now I haven't had the chance yet to hunt with Him, But read ever thread someone wrote about their time w/CK and You'll be making plans to go out West... West texas that is.

Can't tell you anything different then has already been said. If you decide pay to hunt, ask lots of questions to make sure that you know what you total cost are going to be. I have seen a lot of places that change extra, such as $1 per pound for a hog over 100 lbs, $50-100 per inch of cutter over a certain length.

I don't have a huge problem with paying the farmer something for hogs, either labor or a small amount of money, but the cost that I have been seeing recently are upwards of $200 a day, that just blows my mind.
Ask me about CTO.

Have to agree with everyone so far. We go all the time but have several thousand acres owned by many people to choose from, takes knowing somebody that knows somebody right now as hogs bring in revenue for farmers and guides.

I can tell you right now in east texas (in mt pleasant myself) that the rain has EVERYTHING pushed out of the bottoms and its pretty easy to get hog right now, i see them daily. However - rifle season is next week and it will be pretty hard to get anyone to take you for the next month, unless your on a game ranch.

Check out Harts Bluff Game Ranch - they have hunts at pretty fair prices and will get you infront of hog. Only other way is to know somebodya nd wait till after deer season.
