My daughter nearly got a big buck last night!!!!!!! [Eek!]
We were sitting along a ridge and not much was happening. I asked her if she wanted to move, this was 1 hr before dark. I know the area and knew nothing would show by then if it already hadn't. She said yes and so we crept out to a cornfield that hasn't grown very high.
We were going to sit in the middle of that field and wait for deer to trickle in. Right as we were about to reach our spot I saw a deer with it's head down. A very big body! This was on the downside of a small hill and we were at the crest so I couldn't fully see to the bottom.
Casey got in front of me and Jr. and I stood there hunched down. The wind swirled and the buck lifted his head. HOLY MOLY!!! He was nice! Unfortunately he got our wind and bounced off. He must have been pretty heavy because each time he lept it made a loud thud sound.
I only got a quick glimps of him but I know for sure he has 4 points on one side and at least the same on the other. Bounding away from us, I saw he is at least ear tip to ear tip.
Funny thing is , this was an impromptu hunt. I got home from work, told the kids to get ready. No showers or anything special to get ready. We probably would have gotten closer had we prepared better but it almost worked out!!! [Big Grin]
