The biggest drawback to carbons is having to epoxy the inserts in. It doesn't allow too much experimenting unless you buy a dozen shafts just for that purpose. You can heat the inserts by screwing in a field point and heating until the epoxy "gives way" enough to remove the insert. I am about 50/50 on ruining the shafts. Once you know what works for you I think it is just best to let it be and shoot the arrows set up that way. However, with normal aluminum inserts and the variety of adapters, head weights and so forth, you should be able to come up with numerous combos to satisfy you need to experiment. Carbons are great arrows, IMO, and in the long run the most cost effective. You can get the small diameter field points from places like Bob Morrison. I have some that are 250 grains. You just need to spend some time checking out the sponsors but Bob really is up on the heavy FOC carbon arrow scene and he sells everything you may need.
