My son is 25 and married for one year. He took a week off to archery hunt and yesterday we went out. We had a slow morning, he saw a small buck and I only saw one doe. In the afternoon we went to a friends property. I set him up by a swamp where I have been seeing some deer. He uses a climber so I sat by a tree about 100 yards away and settled in for a nice nap. I heard footsteps and opened my eyes and a groundhog was about three yards from my foot. I booed him and he took off. A turkey flew over the swamp and landed about 50 yards away. I pulled out my mouth call and gave some yelps. Turkeys started to fly in and I had about a dozen birds land right in front of me. I was sitting flat on my butt so I shot at one with the bow lateral to the ground, missed him, shot right under and between his legs. They took off and I gave some more loud yelps and more turkey flew in but out of range. the birds were between me and my son so I didn't break up the flock. I called and called and had the birds riled up but they weren't coming in since some of them already knew I was there. They headed up the hill and I saw it was 3'oclock. I have a ladder stand set up so I headed for it. We turned the clocks behind so it was going to get dark early. I sat in my ladder stand for about a two hours and saw a little buck right about 6'oclock. I was set up on a very large tree that Y'd above my stand so I could look back and see what was behind me. I saw a buck coming in behind me and was walking in and looked like he was going to give me a twenty yard shot. He never stopped and I was going to shoot at him through the Y. He was about twenty yards out and I pulled and wham my bow hits the stand with its lower limb when I released, the buck takes off and the arrow flies over his back. He had five points on one side and I couldn't see but the other side of his rack but it looked different. My son meets up with me and he misses a nice big buck, sees a doe and another 5 point. " Dad this was the best day hunting ever", no tags filled but memories that will last a life time.
