thoroughly confused!!!
« on: November 06, 2009, 01:03:00 PM »
I read Dr.Ashby's reports and though great information I get a little lost. I am trying to figure out if my 50 pound at 28 inch draw Kanati that I will be shooting at 27 inch draw which is 45 pounds by my scale and the dynamic spine calculator. I will be pushing a 630 grain arrow ora 515 grain arrow. whichever. will it be enough for an elk up to 20 yards. I have 26 percent up front of center. thanx Travis

If not are you not going on the hunt? Or are you going to buy a heavier poundage bow? If you run all the numbers and figure out you need more pounds then over bow yourself where you can't shoot as accurately that's not good. I say take your equipment make sure you don't take a marginal shot and put one of your arrows right into the ribs. With a razor sharp head your setup will get the job done.

Well, I am contemplating upgrading to a heavier bow. after reading all the reports and such was just woundering if I really needed to upgrade? I am at a position I can but am unsure if I should. To be honest If they have a word for poor hunter it must be me, cause I have only got one shot at a deer or elk in 7 years of hunting with traditional and it was last monday nite. Before that I end up filling my tags with my rifle after archery season ends. If it wasn't for what I have learned through Tradgang I would prbably be still hunch and grunting and shooting 2020 alumminums out of a 60 pound dreamcatcher with poor results. I have invested alot of time working on my form with a lighter pounded bow have hence got away from hunch and grunt. I can stand up shoot a 60 pound bow butnot as long and without weight training as good. I was thinking of going to a 56 at my draw. but why if mine will work right?

Your bow will work fine.  Millions of animals have been taken over the millenia without heavy poundage bows.  Keep your shots inside of 20 yards, and make sure they are clean shots with good angles to the kill zone.

Either arrow can kill an Elk, the heavier one should penetrate better for you.  The 515 grain arrow put in the boiler room will also do the job.  If you exceed the state minimum poundage requirements for you hunting area, get out there, hunt hard and only take shots you know you can make.  Don't change up bows in the middle of a season.  That is a guarantee to make a bad shot.

Got my weights outta of the garage. As soon as I get over the flu here I am gonna start bulking up. I am gonna go with a 56 pounder for elk and continue with my 45 pounder for deer. That is for next year. thanx guys. I just don't wanna leave any doubt to the wind.
