oak shafting

has anyone ever used oak dowls from lowes or home depot for shafts? I realize they need to be splined for weight but isint an 11/32 and 11/32 or am i missing something? They cost .88 cents for a 36 inch dowl. I tried some in 5/16 for a lighter poundage bow and they work great most are perfectly straight, give me some input guys im not new to archery but new to shooting wood.
And in the end when i can no longer draw the bow or watch the arrow embark on its flight;when i posses only the spirit of the hunter, i will hunt.... if only in my dreams... because the hunt is born amidst my soul, and i... i am the hunter

i've made them from the 3/8" dowels from lowes/HD...they're rammin wood as far as i know.

they work really well and are tough as nails.

i use heat and a hook to straighten after before spine testing. i spin them in a homemade lathe to 'size/spine' them diameter wise to 23/64" or 11/32".

rather labor intensive but the results are usually a good flying, heavy, hard hitting arrow.
i was told by a sales person, when purchasing an out-of-date newpaper that it was out-of-date...

i told her "i've been told i'm out-of-date, too"...

does that mean i'm up-to-date?
