My story
« on: November 10, 2009, 10:17:00 PM »
Okay, this is my story.  I have always used wheelie bows and I bought a new pse bow a couple months ago and was shooting and went hunting one time with it.  I was always inspired by the trad bows because of my friend and employer terry.  I went bow hunting with the pse and left from the woods to meet my girlfriend to eat some china food and came out of the restaurant and my bow and everything was stole from my truck.  So i was on the quest to buy a new bow and started to get really interested in the trad bows. So I made a great decision to purchase a hummingbird long bow after shooting one of terry's bear re curve bows.  I am very thankful for the switch and the inspiration Oneshot-OneKill (terry) gave me on the traditional hunting.  I will probably never shoot a wheelie again and I'm glad for my switch to trad and the trad family! Thanks!  Adam Throop

Good for you!  Sounds like me.  I was moving from AZ to MO and stopped for the night in Albuquerque and had all my guns stolen.  Later that year instead of buying a new rifle, I bought a longbow instead.

One little bit of advice if I may, DO NOT fall into the trap of thinking that you HAVE to shoot fast, HAVE to not hold at anchor, HAVE to shoot instinctively, that you CAN shortdraw, that you CAN shoot with sloppy form etc etc etc.

Shoot your bow with all the effort to proper form that you used with your compound.  You will learn faster and get better results.  Down the road, you can experiment and try fancy trick shot stuff but for now, work on solid bow arm, solid anchor and good follow through.  Make sure your arrows are tuned to your bow and go have fun!  You can hold the bow either dead vertical like a compound or cant it over to the side a comfortable amount.  Either works and you probably should learn to shoot both ways.

You are in the right place for all the answers you could possibly think of.  The guys here know more about trad shooting than anywhere else on the net.
Dave

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

Good luck on the Trad Journey... seems it's never ending "Love Story".  You have certainly started out with a nice bow. Now you need to get to shootin'

Here's my story...
When I was 15 years old I didn't have a bow of any kind. I figured out that if I did have a bow then I could hunt 5 weeks earlier here in Alabama. My cousin won a 45 lb. Browning Wasp in high school for selling the most magazine subscriptions. I used that bow for 9 years.  Then I got a 70 lb. Bear Hunter takedown recurve and used it for 16 years until I got a Black Widow in 2007.
