Good for you! Sounds like me. I was moving from AZ to MO and stopped for the night in Albuquerque and had all my guns stolen. Later that year instead of buying a new rifle, I bought a longbow instead.
One little bit of advice if I may, DO NOT fall into the trap of thinking that you HAVE to shoot fast, HAVE to not hold at anchor, HAVE to shoot instinctively, that you CAN shortdraw, that you CAN shoot with sloppy form etc etc etc.
Shoot your bow with all the effort to proper form that you used with your compound. You will learn faster and get better results. Down the road, you can experiment and try fancy trick shot stuff but for now, work on solid bow arm, solid anchor and good follow through. Make sure your arrows are tuned to your bow and go have fun! You can hold the bow either dead vertical like a compound or cant it over to the side a comfortable amount. Either works and you probably should learn to shoot both ways.
