Sherwin Williams conversion varnish and Poly???

Can anyone tell me if SW water white conversion varnish is compatable to put on over quick dry Minwax polyeurothane? I wanted to use the poly to fill small pits in Cocobolo , bocote and such. Then sand it down and spray the Sherwin Williams over it, just wanted to make sure it would dry OK thanks Steve

I would hesitate to use the poly as a filler on oily woods like Bocate or Cocobolo. The oils in these wood can in many cases prevent the poly from completely drying and leave you with a sticky residue on the riser. Lacquer sanding sealer will work much better for you.

You can use 3lb cut shellac for the filler all finishes that I am aware of will stick to shellac and it will dry on the oily woods.

Use the conversion varnish as your filler too and you won't have to worry about compatablility.

I used some CA glue (super glue) to fill pores on a couple risers...and then sprayed with catalyzed urethane...THEN...they peeled. I think for some reason the urethane was not bonding to the CA...
Anyone else know anything about this?

Hornseeker, I just sprayed 5 bows last week with SW catayzed. 3 were my buddies and 2 were mine. He used CA to seal his and I did not. I have not shot mine much yet and he has. I was looking at one of his today that he was shooting and it also was peeling. It only appeared to be peeling where he put the CA on the handle. The limbs looked fine. I just said to him today, " I wonder if the CA was the problem?" It will be interesting to see how mine withoout the CA hold up compared to his. I will try to keep you posted as mine get used more.
