Opinions on old bear bow
« on: November 17, 2009, 03:57:00 PM »
I was just given/loaned a bear Kodiak Hunter by a man I work with. I told him I would get it tuned up and shootable.  Looked it over a little bit and seems to be in good shape.  There are a couble places where the finish is a bit bubbled up.  It that a problem?  No scratches and everything else appears to be in good shape.

Looks like it is a 1953 model made in Canada with serial number 8T11524 55#s at 28 inches.  Does anybody have any history on this bow.  It is a really neat find and totally made my day.

Your bow is a Grayling bow 1968.It was first introduced in 1967 and is considered a good bow and decent shooter, for sure a nice addiction on a bow rack.

The finish bubbles should pose no problem either.

Caleb, the 1953 Canada, is the patent applied for date. Pretty much all Grayling Bear bows have that same sticker on them.

Those pre-futurwood KHs are nice bows. 1967 KH were 58" and the following years were 60"

This kind of information should be in a specific forum IMO    ;)

Man,

I have already learned a ton.  Pretty interesting so far.  I have been bugging the guy about the bow forever.  Today he comes in and says "so I hear you are having a little trouble this season.  Do you think you could do better with that bow?"  I said, That I couldnt take the bow and that I just liked giving him a hard time about it.  Finally it came out that he couldnt even shoot it because he shoots left handed.  Turns out he had just been giving me a hard time.  I told him I would get it tuned up and give it back after turkey season.
