New to Bowhunting

Hi All;

My name is Andy B and have just joined the forums.

I have a few questions that i hope you can all help with:

I have been hunting for a number of years (with rifle) and want to move to Bowhunting, I am very interested in trad bowhunting as I enjoy the hunt and want to make things more challenging.

I am 6'10" with a 32" draw I have been looking at the Bear Archery Super Kodiak Recurve Bow or the Martin Howatt Hunter Recurve Bow.

So my questions are???

Will my height and draw length effect my purchase?
Can these bows be fitted with a quiver?
What arrows should I start with for training?

First thing, welcome to something really cool!

Second;  Being a 32"+ draw myself, I strongly suggest you do a serious bit of research on bows.  That draw is going to rule out a ton of names, and many are mainstream ones.  I suggest you search a little here under "long draw" or even "32" and see what pops up.

I own 4 bows that I can vouch for as able to handle 32" (2 are ChekMates - 68" Crusader LB & a 62" Hunter II 'curve, a 56" Shrew Classic Hunter LB, and a 64" Griffin LB).  There are more, and I suggest if you are looking, seriously talk to the bowyers.  It is not likely that you will find a "mass produced" product that will work, but then again, I may be wrong.

Best thing is to get some in mind, and ask about them.  Lots of good folks here that have experiences they can contribute.

I am also tall and I shoot a longbow I feel it fits better for me I shoot POC arrows uncut and their was a post about 34" longer arrows a few days ago I believe SeigeWorks(he is a member of the gang) a guy who sells longer shafts.My length is 33 also and uncut is usually 34".but you will a lot of advice on this trust the old timers they have tried it all.Good luck

I'm afraid that with a 25" draw, I have little to offer in the way of advice, but congratulations on starting a grand trip.  With help from the guys here, you'll work it all out.

Welcome to our campfire!!

You have few challenges and advantages.  There is absolutly no way to fight drawlength.  At 32" you are going to just smoke an arrow.

We build a few bows that will handle your length.  The Orion Recurve with 17" riser and long limbs will do it easily.  And our longbow limbs on the same riser go out too 68".  Again handling the 32" draw smoothly.

If you want give me a call and we'll sort out your options.  That way as you shop you'll know what to ask the bowyers.
