Longbows tend to have shorter brace heights than recurves. How do you define short?

For a 66" bow that does seem a wee on the short side. 6.75-7.5 seems to be more of the norm for the longer longbows. Best way to tell is play with the height until you get the bow to where it shoots quietest and calmest in the hand. Also measure the string on the bow, it should be 63" long.

Well I'm going to disagree with David on this one. If it is a fairly straight or mild r/d limb bow, 6-6.5" is more normal.
The string length he gives is about right. But like said, play with the brace height to acheive the best for your shooting!
Have fun with it and, good shooting, Steve

Frank is right. Missed the straight limb part. 6.5 is about right on most 66" D shapes.

Depends on the string. Dacron braces higher than lighter weight strings.
