« on: November 20, 2009, 01:29:00 PM »
Hello all,

Does any have any cotton hunting clothes insulated with thinsulate? I was curious if they are quiet garments.

thanks
  Tom.

Cotton stinks it holds moisture and you do not want that.

Cotton + Wet = Cold!  Buy wool!  I live in a wet environment and do not wear cotton once the rains start.  Wool is king in cold or wet weather.  It keeps you warm, even when wet.

In cold weather, I prefer cotton anytime it is not going to get wet.  It is soft, quiet, and cheap.  If it is wet out, I prefer synthetics and wool.  Cotton with thinsulate is quiet and wicks the moisture from your skin outwards.  As long as you are not sweating profusely, it should be a fine choice in dry weather.

Yeah,yeah, Cotton Kills,blah,blah,blah.....

Yes they are right, However..... I have worn cotton jeans while hunting for years!!! and I'm not dead yet!!!!! But, Cotton will never be as warm as wool when you are wet!!!!! Wool will also keep you warmer than ANY of the synthetics out there!!!!!

However, wool is also very hard to clean and dry when you are in hunting camp. When wool is wet,it must be hung to air dry. Many times over the years I have pulled on my wet wool pants that got soaked from the day before..... If you have axcess to a dryer either in camp or at home,it's nice to be able to throw your clothes in the dryer while your eating lunch and put on nice dry clothes to hunt that afternoon.Something you absolutely CANNOT do with wool!!!!!

As for thinsulate..... I have a pair of thinsulate lined camo jeans that are as warm(when dry)and quiet as any of my wool pants are.
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

There is a fine line between Hunting, & Sitting there looking Stupid...

Thanks for the input. The parka I was looking at would be for spring turkey hunting, nothing extreme. My main concern was with the noise of the garments because I wasn't sure how quiet the materials were.

thanks,
   Tom.
