First off I'd like to say I have not shot the Hexshafts. They are a laminated shaft made out of lodgepole pine.
The Surewoods are straight grain douglas fir.
What you laminate wood it makes it stronger usually. But it also restricts it's ability to naturally flex. Also it would probably make it harder to straighten the shaft.
I just can't imagine a better shaft than the Surewood Shafts!

I have made up arrows of both and shot both. Surewoods hands down in my opinion. Straighter, easier to work with, take stain better.

When I ran out of my supply of old stock cedars, I switched to Surewoods.

I've shot both, and prefer the Douglas fir from Surewood.
