That is what I do with fiberglass or kevlar boats not sure on boats,, there is a compound called perfectit 3 at body shops that will blind you from the gloss when you are done...

Instick, If you sand with 2000 grit wet sandpaper you will still need to buff it out with a rubbing compound or some type of polishing compound. I detail cars and remove scratches with 2000 grit wet sandpaper but you still have to use a polishing or buffing compound to get a gloss finish. The 2000 grit will give you a nice satin finish but not gloss. I would recomend Dupont poishing compound or a scratch and swirl remover which you can find at any auto parts store or wally world.  Brokenwing

I ended up just doing coats of true oil...then scotch bright in between...then using Johnson wax...looks pretty good....but if you look hard in a few spots...you can see where there are slight scratch marks in the finish from the pad.....any sugg on getting those out ?

I don't think your going to get the high gloss finish your looking for with Tru-oil. You might try buffing it out with a polishing compound. This is why I went to an epoxy finish like Thunderbird, you can wet sand it to 5000 and polish like glass.
