Still after the big one...
« on: November 29, 2009, 08:30:00 PM »
This year I've been trying to kill a specific buck...I know, I know that I'll probably end up with tag soup.  However, it has been a blast.

I filmed this deer on 10/19 as he bedded in front of my stand at about 75 yards for 3 hours.  I hunted for 6 days straight for the first week of November (all day sits) and never saw him.

Finally, I get him on a trail camera.  Not once, but 3 nights in a row.  This deer is totally nocturnal.  Hoping he calms down and gives me an opportunity by Christmas.

Anyways, here is a pic...

He's a dandy. And, he'll be tough to get.  Good luck.

Sweet deer! Doe season until 12/6 and then muzzleloader season. Better hope for some cold and snow to get him moving during the day. Good luck with him.

If he is really nocturnal, you had better figure out where his bedding area is, and hunt very close to it(not in it).  You have nothing to lose since the rut is over.  A lot of times the "nocturnal" bucks will mill around a bit mid day in their security cover, and they will start to head to feed areas later than other deer.  So, you need to be closer to his bedding area to bust him during shooting hours.  Or wait until next October when he still thinks he is not being hunted.

Oh man...  :help:

Gorgeous deer, and I don't just mean the rack.  Look at the body on that thing.  Wow!

Nuc buck, hope you get him.  If not, he'll always be bigger next year if someone else doesn't get him first.
