I know a few people here have the KMG knife grinder. I am wondering how you like it and if it has come in handy for bow making also. I am thinking about getting one. Thanks!

I've got a KMG with flat grind, small wheel attachments, slack belt & 10" wheel for hollow grinding. It is very easy to switch attachments and a Great Grinder for knives and handles. I find myself using it for all sorts of different projects. I don't know how it fits the applications for bow making though since I don't do that. If I were to do it again, I get the variable speed motor set up...Doc

The cost of the VS is why I didn't originally buy that motor but I wish I had. I'll probably end up buying the VS motor anyway, unfortunately they say you can't put the variable speed on the other motor.
The VS is great for metal work being able to get the exact speed at the twist of a dial. I almost always use my slowest pulley rarely change to the other two. I have my four attachments on four tooling arms so I can change from one to another very fast. The system is rock solid. There is nothing else I'd change. Doc

Don't know anything about the grinders you are talking about, but there may be a way to make a rheostat box for them and make them variable speed. An electrical box that you plug your grinder cord into, with a knob on it.
See your local radio shack for help.

Using a VS is pertty handy when going to finer sandpaper. The finer the grit, the slower you want your grinder to turn.

Well, I may have to re-think it and go for the VS. I am also sold on the KMG, it looks like a great tool. I think it would be of some use in bow making also, and not just knife making.
