factors affecting brace height

As some of you know, I love to try new bows. As I have traded and bought new bows, I have always been able to rely on the previous owners for some brace height numbers and they were pretty accurate,until my last bow.
It was suggested to try 7 3/8-7 1/2", the bow was loud still and finally quieted down at 6 1/2" with my set up. I realize my friend was shooting a different set up, arrow weight, draw length, etc.
I just wonder is brace height affected strictly by construction of the bow or are there other variables that play into the equation?

BLM, the foundation of the height is from the design, ie, recurve, highly reflexed or deflex.

But the others, shooting style and even the type of string material used.

You didn't state whether it was a recurve or longbow? At the lower brace you state, if recurve, there would be more string contact, meaning more noise.

I also feel that a big problem with noisy bows, is something overlooked, and that is a string with to much twist! It kills the integrity of the material.

Anyway, the best is to find the "sweet spot" for your shooting style and set-up!

Thanks STeve it is a 60" longbow. Still struggling to get it as quiet as I would like but working on whether it is me or the bow...

That sounds about right for a longbow. I like 6- 6.5 on mine.

I don't like silencers on my longbows. Heavy arrows, properly spined and tuned, should be a quiet thump.

Alot of noise from a L.B. can be arrow smack on release, at the shelf. This can be caused by to short of fistmele. Dacron or high performance string can also contribute.
Proper arrow spine and nock fit and tune.

You may have to go underspined on shafts to find a quieter shot. Let me know when you get there!
