Opening Day

4am rise from my bed and my feet hit the floor.
Drink a cup of coffee, open the door.

Try as I might to focus my eyes.
To take in the beauty of the dark blessed skies.

I get to the woods well before light.
Exited as a school boy, not much sleep last night.

A long quiet walk all the way to my stand.
As the sun comes up im taken away at the sight of the land.

As the birds start singing the woods come alive.
This is the place where I prosper and thrive.

It starts to rain, but I don’t worry with weather.
For the bow I carry is merely wood and a little leather.

As the rain settles down and it starts to slack.
Off to my left I hear a slight crack.

As I ready my bow, arrow knocked tight.
Out from the thick a beautiful sight.

a whitetail buck, rack tall and wide.
so exited i nearly broke down and cried.

As he walks into range, only fifteen steps.
I draw my bow, lips to my fletch.

When I release my arrow it finds its mark.
My legs start to tremble, my head goes dark.

As I stoop in the dirt down on bended knee.
I thank my creator for the blessings he bestow upon me.

This story hasn’t happened yet, these are thoughts in my head.
For tomorrows opening day, and im just lying in bed.

"Friends of the bow"

Young rabbit and old bull were years apart. Rabbit much like a race car, bull like a horse and cart.

Rabbit took an interest in stick and string. So old bull took him under his wing.

bull taught him about spine and everything trad. Rabbit took everything in that he said.

he taught rabbit about the old ways of pulling back and lettin' go. But rabbit had a budget and was tired of breaking his arrow.

After hundreds of broke arrows and a few worn out strings. rabbit finally realized there must be a way to aim these damn things.

Pulling his hair and giving his head a big bang. He was surfing the web and discovered the trad gang.

he read of gapping, plungers, rests and a thing called a clicker. But when talking of such things with bull it turned to a bicker.

It wasn’t long before rabbit was top shooter of the tourney. Looking back it was one hell of a journey.

Their style may not be the same as all this ends. But both are trad shooters, and the two are still best of friends.
