Best fanny pack?
« on: December 03, 2009, 09:44:00 PM »
I recently started doing more out of state public land hunting and found out quickly that I needed to replace my old heavy climber for those long hikes.  I picked up the lone wolf hand climber, and now I'm looking for a fanny pack that I can carry under the climber.  I dont really have a chance to try any on so I was hoping someone else would have some experience with this.  I tend to carry alot of food in the woods with me for my all day sits (gotta eat every 2 hours!)along with some calls and other probably unneccesary items, so it needs to have some space.  Any info is greatly appreciated!

All I can say is that I bought a lot of fanny packs and I found that if they don't come with an "H" style shoulder straps I wont but it. They have to be padded to. Or else the pack slips down on your but and is very uncomfortable.

Badlands, Bison Gear are both great companies to deal with- Bison Gear is a sponsor here and Angelo stands behind his stuff 100% - and he's all right for a short guy from New Jersey!!!!!

For a really unique fanny pack take a look at the Badlands Whitetail Treehugger.  Works like a regular fanny pack, but opens up with a mesh "bucket" to keep your stuff in while you're in the tree.  I do have one in stock if it looks like something that might work for you.

Going with Angelo at Bison on this one simply from experience and service. I havent had the chance to get my hands on Badlands. I trust Mike at Legends thoughts, and Whip has some stock. I think a pack is just one of those personal items you have to be comfortable with. Get your hands on as many as you can before you buy.

I bought a Badlands, Monster? I believe, and a Blacks Creek Jim Horn All American. Gave them a comparison test and sent the Badlands back. There are "D" rings on the back of the straps that I tie my Lone Wolf to, kind of like the way the new Lone Wolf carry system works. I think Whip carries Blacks Creek.

I have a wool KOM fanny pack but the wool just isn't tough enough for the way I use them.

For all day my favorite is the Eberlestock X2 that I got from Joe.  But just to hunt close to home the Bison Gear Gopher is perfect to hang in the tree with me.  You can get Angelo to customise any of his packs too.

As my hunting partners know my problem is I tend to fill my pack, so getting the right size is essential   :biglaugh:  Doc
