Noisy Treestands?
« on: December 03, 2009, 10:31:00 PM »
I hate any kind of noise from any of my gear as the little hidey hole where I hunt won't allow it. I have some stands that sound like a banjo. Not good! So today I took a stand and applied exterior caulk to all areas where metal mesh and tubing meet.Very happy with the results, totally dampened the noise level. I wish I thought of this a long time ago. All my stands are going to get the caulk treatment soon.

I make rubber gaskets out of old tire tubes.  Works great and may last longer than the chalk.

I use plastic washers on all of my stands an use the plastic dip(used for covering tool handles) on all the chains and paint it on the bottom inside of the stand frame. It helps to absorb the noise.and oil with corn oil all the moving parts and joints.I keep a small applicator bottle in my pack.

I have had my share of noisy stands over the years but my new Summit Open Shot Deluxe is super quite and rock steady.

I would love to see some pics.

I am going to try some spray foam in the tubes of a couple ladder stands and stick ladders to see if that will help with the occasional noise.  I also want to keep the water out of them.  I can't see where it would hurt at all or add any real weight.  My hand on stands are all baby gorillas and my lone wolf.  No nose to worry about with them.
