Black Bears and 42#s ???

Planning my second bear hunt in my life. Was thinking of using my BW 42@27 and GT's that weigh about 480gr. With a Ace 2blade???
For you guys that have shot alot of bears?? Is this going to be enough bow?? I'll be set up over bait @ about 10-20yrds.. I'm sure I can take a Whitetail with it... Is a black bear that much harder to kill??

Is that weight going to be legal where you're hunting? And if you're hunting with an outfitter are they OK with it? If a 500# bear walks in, you might be wanting a bigger bow.

The main thing I would say is keep the shot around 10 yards or less, should be that distance anyway for BB over bait in my opinion and be sure BH is sharp.Be sure he is relaxed when you make the shot and double lung em and you are good to go.

30 years ago, I talked to an outfitter about bow weight for black bear. He was convinced that the best bow weight was 40-45 pounds. His reasoning was that pass throughs were less likely with the lighter bows. He said the bear would fight the arrow, and thus stay in sight until he went down.
My experience has been that a well placed razor sharp 2 blade kills the bear before he can even get out of sight or hearing.

42# is light but it would be legal in Alaska for black bear. Good shot placement, sharp broad head and stay within your real effective range and your good to go.
