UK archery shops
« on: April 11, 2007, 04:13:00 PM »
my dad and i are goin to watch our our favorite rugby team, the new zealand All Blacks, play in the world cup this year, we will have a few days to tour around in scotland and in wales, so are there any custom bowers, big archery shops to go see, we have been to scotland, so we have seen lochness and all the big tourist atractions, we would like to find a place that sells english longbows, can anyone over in the UK tell me of any shops?

Ian, let me know whereabouts you'll be going & I'll sort you out a list of shops in the area.

There's virtually no Trad shops to be found in the UK unfortunately. Most, if not all, shops will carry some gear, but not much.
If you're after an ELB, pretty much everywhere will sell you one, but watch out for the quality. As with everything, if it's cheap, it'll be crap. The best 2 bowyers in England (for ELBs) are Pip Bickerstaff who sells through quite a few of the larger outlets as well as direct & Kieth Gascoine who only sells through his own shop (KG Archery) Kieth's place is well worth a visit (If you're anywhere near Nottingham) He does more Trad gear than anyone in the UK (Except possibly Border) Longbows, Flatbows, 1 & 3 piece recurves, the lot. They also have a 20yd indoor range that you can rent by the hour, if you wish.

If you're venturing in Wales, vist Wales Archery Specialists, in Crick. They have a large selection of Longbows, but I tend to agree with Rob,in terms of quality. I decided to buy my yew longbow from Jay St Charles, and I believe I wouldn't be able to find a yew self bow of that quality here in the UK.

Ian mate, you'll LOVE the armouries!  :D

KG Archery is about 70 miles South of Leeds down the A1. The only archery supplier anywhere nearer is a company called Aardvaark Archery in Leeds itself, but they only really supply modern FITA & compound gear.

Border in Scotland also has a 3D course . It might be fun to shoot 3D in a Kilt.!or at least chilly.
