LUNG SURGERY, HOW LONG BEFORE?
« on: December 10, 2009, 06:49:00 PM »
HELLO GUYS, I HAVE JUST RETURNED HOME FROM LUNG SURGERY. THANKS TO THOSE WHO HAD ME IN THEIR PRAYERS.  LOOKS LIKE I AM GOING TO MAKE IT.  JUST WONDERED IF ANY OF YOU HAVE HAD A SIMILAR SURGERY, AND IF SO WERE YOU ABLE TO RESTORE YOUR STRENGTH AND SHOOT THE BOW AGAIN. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE?
THANKS AGAIN FOR THE PRAYERS.  LOOKS LIKE THEY WORKED.

How did they go into the chest.breast plate or intercostal(between the ribs on the side)That will help you determine which muscles you will need to work on the most.Nice to have you back

Yep, congrats on beating it Lynn!! And like my good Buddy Big Ed says follow Dr's orders. Been thru a couple pretty serious surgeries myself and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Be patient, start slow and work you way back up, you'll not regret it in the long run.

There IS light at the end of the tunnel! My buddy (a girlfriends dad) had been knocked out of hunting for a couple of years with several major chest surgeries. He absolutely LIVES for hunting. About a month ago he went out and got a very nice 8 point and then 2 weeks later brought me out for my very first hunt.

Just keep your eyes on the prize and be patient or you might end up a patient again. =0)

Good to hear you're doing o.k. Listen to your physical therapist, but most importantly your body.

I've been there.  Five years ago I had a heart attack and when in the ER they found a spot on my lung which turned out to be cancer.  Had half of my left lung removed.  They went in through the ribs, inercostal, toward the back side.  ˆ had been shooting traditional bows for about 57 years prior, anywhere from 60 lbs to 74 lbs without any problem.   It took me a good two years before I could get back to shooting  60 lbs. comfortably.   The 74 lbs is part of history.  The good news is that you can do it, but you need to work at it with a lot of patience.  My best to you.

You're paying big bucks for a PT. Make 'em earn it and listen to your doctor. Stay Positive. May God Bless each one of you here to complete health.
