MS Hog Hunt

I have a question along the same lines as the afordable javelina hunt question posted on here. A group of 4-5 of us from here in MS get together prior to bow season, usually September, and take a hunting or fishing trip. We are still up in the air as to where to go this year, and time to book a trip is getting close or has already passed for most places.

Here is what we are looking for: A place to bowhunt something in September, preferably hogs. It has to be reasonably priced (under $400 if possible), and within a reasonable driving distance from central MS (10-12hrs max). As stated earlier, there will be 4-5 of us, so the place needs to be able to accomodate that many hunters.

I know that is a lot of criteria, but that's what we are looking for. Any suggestions for a hunt that we could make that may still have openings for that time of year?

contact Curtis at 7th age, sponsor here, I have hunted with him a couple times, he can put you on 'em. Never hunted with Ray but heard many good things about him !

I emailed him earlier, just waiting to hear back. His place sounds like exactly what we are looking for. I am looking for a few more options in case he is booked.

It's on 55, about 10 miles north of Brookhaven, 45 miles south of Jackson.

Thanks Jwatts, I looked it up on Goggle, I'm alway looking to see if their are any Trad guys close by.  I'm the only one in my area that i'm aware of.

I've got a friend that shoots trad, and there's a bowyer down the road a ways in Jayess. I am the same way as you. It is good to know where others with similar interests are. It seems like there aren't many trad shooters in my area, but a lot of my friends are slowly developing an interest in it.

Off topic, but I am a proud graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Jr College in the great city of Wesson, MS! I understand it is a much larger place now.

I'm a fellow alum myself. I have lived in the area all of my life (29 years). The town hasn't grown much as long back as I can remember. The only major change is we now have 2 liquor stores and a dollar general store.    :D    It is still the same small town it has always been. The college however has grown a good bit, even since I graduated in 02.

Remember hunting in Wesson with friends 15 or so years ago.  Just a little farther north than you all in Madison MS.  If ever in the area, give me a shout.

I grew up in Monticello, graduated Co-Lin in '84. Only one liquor store then. One small store, can't remember the gentleman's name who owned it, but he would let us poor college kids get stuff on credit. Best place for late night chow was the truck stop out on I-55.

The truck stop was the place to go until a few months ago. The old Wesson Cafe is now one of the best mexican restaurants in the area.

Will do. If you are ever down this way holler at me. I don't have a lot of private land to hunt, but I know a few spots in the Copiah WMA.

I live on the golf course. I usually have to stop on my way out to hunt to let the deer cross the road from one side of the course to the other. If only I could hunt there.
