Weight Tubes...has anyone tried this?
« on: December 20, 2009, 12:27:00 PM »
Some one had to have tried this? I have been thinking about cutting tubes in half and gluing them to just the front 2/3's of the shaft.
My idea is of coarse to give more FOC. I came up with the idea after looking at tapered shafts.

Anyone already try this...what was your results, if any?

I haven't tried the tubes, but the farther forward you can get the weight, the better your FOC will be.  I have tried weight inside the shaft (lead) and they get pretty heavy before you get the FOC you want. I like glue on heads with heavy adapters the best.

I have tried them. I do not like them. IMO you are better off with a little stiffer arrow and more tip weight.

I totally agree with 30coupe.
Your FOC will increase the quickest if you get the weight literally out in front of the arrow instead of inside the arrow...AS IN...the broadhead and adapter.  Then work backwards to 100 gr. brass insert and then weight behind insert if needed.

With glue-on Grizzlys I have put 15 grains of lead from bullet worm weights in the ferrule before glueing in adapter.  Works great by adding more weight in front of arrow.

I tried the weight tubes with very dissapointing results. I could not got them to be quiet no matter what I tried. I switched to a stiffer arrow and went with a 360 gr tip

I have used the tubes for the front half of the arrow. You need to crimp the tube about every inch and a half and force them in the arrow shaft to make them stay put. I have used weed wacker line, decoy line(tanglefree) and poly rope. I will say this, by the time you get done messing around you will be better off going with a stiffer shaft and bumping your tip weight up.IMHO

I used the tubes in some axis and they acted like a slide hammer, kept knocking my insert's out! even tryed to glue them, same thing!! Jason

Yeah I agree the heaver point weight is the way to go. I use weight tubes now, but they go the full length of my shaft. I Use them mostly to get my arrow to the 10gr per pound set up.

What you say makes sense..sometime its just isn't worth it. Thanks

I have tried full length tubes and can not get them not to make noise when shot.I have tried crimping and gluing, nothing works.IMO a heavy point or B.H. with a brass adapter is the way to go.
