A Walk in the woods
« on: December 22, 2009, 02:35:00 PM »
I attempted to post this before but stupidly attached pictures showing rifle kills to it.  So, I had a very difficult bow season.  My Father-in-law passed away on Sept. 4 and being that he was a hunting buddy too that was hard.  I'm a minister and performed the burial and then had to take care of my mother-in-laws affairs.
I ended up having an auction, selling his house and property, timbering the original family farm and eventually buying that farm.  By the time I got my mother-in-law in the retirement community she wanted in bow season was about shot!
When Thanksgiving rolled around I found myself pretty down when I took a walk in the woods.  It was beautiful, quiet and had all the right sounds and smells that triggered those feelings I've loved for more than 45 years now.
So, I did something I haven't done in years and that was dust off my rifle and went deer hunting!  God saw fit to bring me a large doe the first Saturday and a "BIG" 10 pt. the last day.  When I walked up to that buck I looked up to Heaven and just said thanks for this great sport of hunting that I've been blessed to be a part of.  I didn't have the kind of kills with my sticks that I prefer but I was still a part of the hunt.  Just thought I'd share!

I am sorry for your loss.  I know all about bad seasons.

Its a good thing that you were able to get out no matter the weapon.

A walk in the woods is the best way I have found to replenish my soul.

Well, we all have things to deal with and it sounds like you had your share. Just stick with it and before you know it will deer season 2010. Keep a good frame of mind and press on.....
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. For God is good, all the time!
I admire that you did what you needed to do at exactly the right time.

You will be in my prayers.
With all the love that is Christ Jesus
God bless,Mudd

The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.
