It is only because of the past and present service men and women that we can enjoy all of our pusuits. Yes, we should remember them this holiday season and always.

Remember them all! I missed a Christmas overseas back in the 70's and it is really tough on the young men and women who serve for us. My Grandson's Daddy is over in Iraq for this Christmas and will miss his son's first Christmas. Modern technology will make it easier to share tomorrow with him though.

Amen.  Wish they could all be home with their families.  One thing you might think about = for those of you who were successful this season.  Have some jerky made and send it over to one of your state Reserve or National Guard units.

Right before Thanksgiving I sent 175 pounds of jerky to our troops in Iraq on behalf of the Nebraska Bowhunters Association.  Have approximately another 300 pounds of deer meat promised - and plan to do the same thing the end of January = plan to send this batch to Aftanistan.  Check with you local lockers and tell them what you are doing and they might give you a price break on the processing.  Figured it was the least I could do.

My son is home from Iraq, thank the Lord, but I prayed everyday for their safe return.
More thanks and prayers for our Military than I can ever goes out to the people who serve.
Merry Christmas!

I think about them every day.  Spent a Christmas away from home once, too.  Wasn't fun then; isn't fun now.

Christmas wishes for our men and women in service and a safe return to their families.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

God bless our troops and keep them safe. It isn't easy being in a combat zone any time, but it is especially tough around Christmas. The US military is the finest fighting force ever conceived, and they deserve our thanks and respect. I'm proud to say that I once wore the uniform, although at times it wasn't the most fun I've ever had. I can relate to being in harm's way, and it ain't like in the movies.

As a disabled vet, this is a time of year that's bittersweet. I've spent my time on the line during the holidays and it's not easy, but it is satisfying to know you are the line that lets others sleep in safety. A good buddy of mine, another disabled vet and a survivor of the Mogadishu Death Run, posts this on our club's board each Christmas. Hopefully Shine won't mind me posting it for y'all over here.

"
'Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone,
in a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone.

I had come down the chimney with presents to give,
and to see just who in this little house lived.

As I looked all about, a strange sight I did see,
No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.

No Stockings by mantle, just boots filled with sand,
On the wall hung pictures of far distant lands.

With medals and badges, awards of all kinds,
A sobering thought came through my mind.

For this house was different, it was dark and dreary,
The home of a soldier, I could now see clearly.

The soldier lay sleeping, silent, alone,
Curled up on the floor in this one bedroom home.

The face was so gentle, the room in such disorder,
Not how I picture a United States Soldier.

Was this the hero of whom I'd just read?
Curled up on a poncho, the floor for a bed?

I realized the families that I saw this night,
owed their lives to these soldiers who were willing to fight.

Soon round the world, the children would play,
and grownups would celebrate a bright Christmas day.

They all enjoyed freedom each month of the year,
because of the soldiers, like the one lying here.

I couldn't help wondering how many lay alone,
on a cold Christmas Eve in a land far from home.

The very thought brought a tear to my eye,
I dropped to one knee and started to cry.

The soldier awakened and I heard a rough voice,
"Santa don't cry, for this life is my choice".

I fight for freedom, I don't ask for more,
My life is my God, my country, my corps."

The soldier rolled over and drifted to sleep,
I couldn't control it, I continued to weep.

I kept watch for hours, so silent and still,
as we both shivered from the cold night's chill.

I didn't want to leave, on that cold, dark night,
this guardian of honor, so willing to fight.

Then the soldier rolled over, with a voice soft and pure,
whispered, "Carry on Santa...., It's Christmas Day...., All is secure.

One look at my watch, and I knew he was right,
Merry Christmas my friend.... and to all a Good Night.
