trad bowhunters / groundblinds
« on: December 26, 2009, 10:15:00 AM »
Any of my fellow trad bowhunters use groundblinds? I scored a groundblind yesterday 5'7" tall x 5'x5'. (great gift from my Mrs!) My bow is 62" long (5'2"s). I'm curious to know if I can shoot effecively out of it? I'd open the box up and try it but if I'm going to trade it in I'd prefer to not open the box....

I have a Double Bull Matrix standard height 68" that I use for Turkeys. I can shoot my 62" recurve out of it but it's very tight. I much perfer my 60" bow instead when using the blind. If I knew what I know now, I would have purchased the recurve model that is 74" and I still may. The larger model isn't that much more. Bottom line is do what to be paying attention to the game as it comes in or the tip of your bow. By the way I shoot with my bow straight up with no cant. If you cant your bow alot you can disregard what I said.  Good luck, Glen

You not only have to check the overall height and width for bow clearance but you have to check arrow clearance of the windows at full draw.  A two man blind is most likely a one man with a bow even a compound.  The taller the better and the bigger the better with a bow.  It is really hard to judge until you are in a blind with the bow.  Probably you can make the blind work if you can sit in a corner and use it like a diamond rather than square to where you want to shoot that will give you two windows that you can shoot out of.

Check window height also,my bro bought a blind to turkey hunt with his girls, and the windows are too high to shoot a longbow from.......
Stay sharp, Kenny.

I second the window height check.  I was trying out a blind and had clearance with a 60 inch bow but hit the lower window edge.  Not good.  Had a time finding the arrow, let alone the damage to the frame.  rightminded

The key is to get out and practice from the blind.  Every year we use ours for pigs and turkeys.  I set one up in the front yard and we all shoot out of it for a week.  Makes a big difference.

BTW we have the recurve model DB blinds and the only problem I've had with window height was Connie + shotgun+ turkey = hole in bottom of window.  LOL

I have an old ameristep stackhouse... 60" square x 78" Tall ...works very well for one guy and a 60-62" bow...you do have to sit against the back wall and still watch the tip of the arrow on the front wall.  Mine has been left out in the woods going on it's 4th season...looking not so good but still standing and works fine.

I have an Eastman leafy blind that is 78" tall and have shot bows upto 68" from it. I used a buddys Dbl Bull standard height blind (not sure of the height....maybe 68"?) and shot a 62" recurve from it, but had to drop off the seat onto my knees to allow clearance. May have to increase your cant a bit. I know a guy that shoots a 68" longbow from his standard Dbl. Bull with no issues, but he cants his bow way over all of time anyway. Good luck! Mike

Go to google, and type in yukon tracks enforcer blind, got one for $158 shipped, 80inches tall and 70x70 square, double bull knock off, works great. HUb style, 1minute up or down.

I shoot a 62" out of my Double Bull without a problem. You are just going to have to try it to see.
