Grumley Replica Question

Hey, all. The next bow I'd like to build is a replica of Nels Grumley's Bush Bow or Deerslayer (not sure which). However, I wanted to know if anyone has experience shooting bows of this style and if the added mass from the brush nocks at the tips induces handshock as it would seem. Any information on the advantages, drawbacks, physics, etc of brush nocks would be most appreciated. For example, on the Bush Bow, the brush nocks really elevate the string off the belly. What effect, if any, does this have on the performance of the bow? Thanks for the help!

I'm actually getting ready to get a Grumley Replica from a fella (bowyer) named John Brooks here in Indiana. I could try to put you in touch with him if you like. He might be able to tell you some of the problems or effects of the questions you are asking. Just a side note, of the Grumley's he has made, John Grumley, (may he rest in peace) had bought 7 from John Brooks over the years and is reported to have said that the replica bows looked to be built just like when Nels was making them.

Texas Recurves have tips like Grumleys, bigger actually,  and shoot great.  The string angle is much more tolerable on them and they are very short bows.

JD Jones also built a Brushnock static recurve for a few years.  He would be a good resource to give a call.

I love those little bows.  Maybe someday I'll build me one.

Killed a bear with my repro brush bow on BQIII last June - it was a small bear, but it is a small bow too. I made this bow last winter.

That's a pretty bow, Shaun.
Kevin L., I saw some of John Brooks bows at a gunshow in Indianapolis.  I was smitten.  Funny thing was that being a gunnut for many years his booth was the only table that kept my interest last January.  Unfortunately, John wasn't manning it that night but I learnt about him from his friend who was.  They are pricy (at least for me at the time being) but excellent in everyway.
