Possibles bag help

I made this lastnight, but dont know how to go about putting a shoulder strap on it. I need some ideas on what to do....Thanks Roy

jut punch 4 holes on each side in a square pattern on the back on each side.  Cut your strap to length and cut 4 matching holes on each end of the strap.  Lace them up.  Another neat trick is to put a button on the back on each side at the top.  The cut the strap to lenght and split the strap so the buttons can be threaded thru.  This allows you to remove the strap if you want to.

Nice bag.  I like the look of the ragged edge for the flap.

Thanks for the help. I'll have to get the leather for the strap tomorrow. Thats all I had left. The flap is like that because I didnt want to waste anything. I figure it gives it some character......Roy

You can see how the straps are attached to the back of my bag. The knife sheath is also sewn on the back side. The other stitching is a pocket on the inside of the back wall of the bag.

Here's the front of the bag. It's bark tanned leather which was an old time method of tanning leather. You can see a little hair left on the edge of the flap and the ragged cloth is the lining of the bag.

Ron, How did you attach the sheath? Did you sew it to the bag then sew the sheath together? I have a knife that I want to add to the bag like that.....Roy

Here's how I did mine......

 
 
 

The strap is held in the brass rings with Manchester Screws & the rings themselves are attatched to the back of the bag with 2 leathertabs & more Manchester Screws. I makes the whole bag easy to disassemble to repair or replace parts as needed over time. I used the brass rings as tie-on points for ether a bedroll or powder horn or a couple of brace of rabbits & skwerls! If I were to make another I probably wouldn't go as big as this. It's 12" wide by 14" tall with a 4" expanding welt plus an external pocket! I can get enough stuff in there for a good long weekend in the field!
