An important thing to remember about the Windwalker and the Limit.Windwalker weight capacity is 225 unless they have changed it.Limit weight capacity is 275.I had a Windwalker and sold it years ago.Still regret that but I was  too close to the 225 maximum weight with all my hunting clothes on to take the chance.

I have an older Alum-i-Lok stand it weighs under 6 pounds and is very stable. I can hang it on my pack and go. Never had a problem with it. I have looked at the Chippewa stands pretty closely and they look excellent, but they're a bit pricey. I think My alumilok cost around $50, but that was 10 or more years ago. Still, it's a longterm investment to consider.

you can go to muddy treestands they have some light stands and some great light climbing sticks to go with them!!

I have the Gorilla scout with a 3-set of matching climbing sticks. This will get me right at 15' if I put a pretty good distance between the sticks. This is a very light weight combo but I couldn't figure out how to attach the sticks to the stand and have my packpack on the stand as well. I fixed this by using an aluminum pack frame with alot of straps. Now I can get every thing strapped to the frame including my safari tuff quiver and keep my hands completely free. I can pack this set up in deep, hang it and hunt it with very little effort.

Ya know, the features of the Lone Wolf is a HUGE plus in my book. They will go in just about any tree, crooked, leaning, straight etc... the fact that you can adjust the level of the platform and seat is a big deal to me, more so that the few extra pounds! You can hike way back in the woods with some feather weight stand but when you get there and your stand can't really fit in the tree ya need it to can kinda ruin a good spot! Just a thought!

I have a Windwalker and a Lone Wolf Assault, among others.

I used the Windwalker for years and liked it, but it was not nearly as quiet or as sturdy as the Assault.  I think they suggest a 225 pound load limit, too (check me on this).  I have not used mine since I got my Assault and probably will not ever use it again.

The 11 pound figure given for the Assault seems way too high to me.  I think that was the number for the Alpha when I bought mine.  I suspect the Assault is more like 8 pounds.  It is an extraordinary stand, though somewhat larger than a Windwalker.

I would like to have an Assault the size of a Windwalker.  Now THAT would be a great portable stand.

If you want something that you can carry in long distances, or even travel by air with, I think the Loc-On Windwalker is the answer.  It is very light, and extremely easy to put up.  It has a very small platform, but I've killed several deer from it on all-day sits late in the season where I was making a long hike in and planning to sit all day.  Carrying a full-size stand through all the brush perhaps a mile?  Not worth it.  And that's where the Loc-On Windwalker excels.  That said, I altered my Windwalker (I think I bought it in the late 1980s) by putting a lag screw through the base to help the base "dig" into the tree's bark a little bit more and make it more stable.  I also replaced the top bolts on the frame with longer threaded bolts that would similarly dig in to the tree a bit.  These adaptations made my stand more stable on the smaller trees I often hunt out of.  That's another advantage of the Windwalker; it will work fine on small trees.  I don't know if Loc-On has improved the stand in the 20 years since I bought mine, but mine was certainly money well-spent.

If you are looking for something larger and bit heavier (and extremely comfortable), the Lone Wolf Assault gets my vote.  It would be harder to travel with, especially by air.

There have been at least 2 versions of the Windwalker. The newer versions are beefed up a little and aren't quite as light as the originals. One I have weighs 6 lbs 5 oz and the other is 6 lbs 11 oz.I had bought one when they first came out but lost that one in a forest fire.I could have sworn it was 5 3/4 lbs but really not sure now.Sometimes advertised weight and real weight are two different things.

I just checked Loc On's website. They are giving a weight of 7.75 lbs.I have a couple Gorilla treestands that weigh 8 lbs. They have quite a bit bigger platforms than the Windwalker plus taller, more comfortable seats.I think they are Silverback Lites? Not sure if I should trust my memory on that either.Nice stands though.

JimB...I think you're right, as I think the old Windwalkers were advertised at under 6 pounds.  I'd weigh mine but it's perched in a tree that I can't get within one mile of with the current snow/blizzard situation here.

Gorilla scout JimB I believe.Very good stand.I like the platform as well. And the seat is good and the height as well.Solid state.Folds very flat. The seat wont stick up above your head either when packing so it easier to glide through low limbs etc.
